Went to see AFTER THE WEDDING yesterday (going again today with some friends). I had seen it when it was being shown at one of the festivals (AFI) here in L.A.
Besides the fact that Mads is amazing in it -- is it me or can that man act volumes with just his eyes? -- I just loved the writing. Anders Thomas Jensen can do no wrong in my eyes.
But the really big news were two of the trailers attached to the movie:
1. It looks like ADAM'S APPLES is finally going to get a US release!!! The trailer said "Coming soon" but that's the first I've heard of it; and
2. The TV SET trailer was on it as well. I nearly screamed out "IOAN" in a theatre filled with little old ladies..
Yes, there were tons of seniors at the show yesterday, but I went with a friend who had dinner plans so we went to the matinee. Favorite comment overheard from a pink-haired senior lady: "That can't be the boy from the Bond movie, this one is MUCH better looking!"
So both films are now in "Coming Soon" status ... just thought I'd share.

While flying to and fro I bought magazines to occupy my time. Guess who is in both People magazine and Entertainment Weekly this week??? Yep - Mads has small pictures in both but he gets mentioned very positively in regards to his performance in After the Wedding.
So good to see him getting more recognition, finally. _________________

I think it's waaaay past time for a Mads update.
Well, maybe not really an update, but how about some new pics? The first one was featured in a German movie mag last fall, but the rest of the shoot has just surfaced (thanks to mata @ LJ).

it's finally happened!
I travelled to London and met my man!!
I have waited soooo long to meet Mads and I can't tell you what an incredible experience it was. I'm still feeling rather emotional & shell-shocked by it all, to be honest!
Here's the pictures - I did my best but the lighting in that place was just awful!
http://s5.photobucket.com/albums/y167/Tristansladyhawk/Mads%20at%20London%20Film%20Cov%202007/
He is twice the gorgeous, charasmatic, warm & friendly guy, I ever imagined him to be. He far exceeded my expectations and I am safe in the knowledge that he deserves every ounze of admiration he inspires.
OMG and that voice........!!!! _________________

Yay! Congratulations Jacqui, I am so envious of you. I am so happy to hear that he is as nice and wonderful as we believed. It gives me that warm fuzzy feeling just knowing that.
Thank you for sharing those photos, they are great. _________________

That is so true! It can be disappointing sometimes when you meet someone you've admired for so long and only find out he's not anything like you imagined....but with Mads, he is all that and more!
Congrats, Jacqui!!!
And thanks for posting the pictures! He looks and the hair.....I just wanna run my fingers through it.....*sigh* _________________

He was giving me some warm fuzzy feelings EJ, let me tell you!!

That hair was one of the first things I noticed when I first caught sight of him. My Goodness, did he look stunning. He'd combed it and everything! and a delightful whisper of silver stubble around his chin. *sigh*
I have to say, he really did look well, the picture of health. Slightly tanned, sparkling eyes, not in the least bit skinny.
And Sage, he certainly didnt disappoint, he far exceeded every hope - I dont think that can be said of many an actor type. He's a rare gem of a man that Mads Mikkelsen! _________________

while I was in York Mads saved me from insanity more than once...
first there was a magazine on the plane which I was reading to calm down... I've never flown before so I almost had heartattacks after heartattacks... I thought I'd have to die of some overreactions of my body... but then I turned the page and there was an image of Mads Mikkelsen!!!!!!... I was so happy not to be *alone*
and when I got to see my room in the hostel I was staying at, I just wanted to go back home...
But after I decided to walk around a bit and I passed a H&M... and in the shop window there was a HUGE poster of Mads...
so everytime I was fed up with something, I just had to walk past the H&M...
I really belong into a psychiatry... |

Has anyone heard when this is going to be released ? Saw a trailer a few months back, but heard nothing since.
Feels like we've been waiting forever for any new Mads stuff - I'm suffering serious withdrawal symptoms. _________________ I will choose my own fate !

It's been released on dvd but not with English subtitles, so dont bother ordering from Denmark yet & it's just been shown at the London Film Festival, but I've heard nothing about a general cinema release as of yet. I wouldnt hold my breath waiting for one either! They kept us waiting over a year for a subtitled version of Pusher II, so I dont expect anything in the immediate future. As for 'Dur Tie' - not heard anything about that yet either but it shouldnt be too long. Valhalla is set for August 2009. _________________

Sorry, yup. Actually, you can blame IMDB for my mistake with the title. Do these people in charge of film realeases actually enjoy torturing us, or what ? I mean, when it comes to Mads' movies, someone always seems to be sitting on them & it's really starting to wind me up !

Flame & Citron will be released theatrically in the US by IFC Films in either January or February of 2009. I'm sure a dvd release will follow.

EF.
Good to hear something concrete at last about this. Was beginning to think whoever's in charge of releasing films had forgotten about "Flame & Citron". Things seemed to be pretty quiet for ages.
Seeing as the pending release is in the New Year, I'm now getting visions of 'Best Foreign Film' nominations floating about in my head ... Mmm, I wonder ... Be great if it happened *smiles wistfully* _________________ I will choose my own fate !

Nope, sorry. Denmark's submission to the Foreign Film category is a film called "Worlds Apart" in English ("To Verdenes" in Danish, I think).
I know, shocking! And it's not nominated for best film in the European Awards either although both Mads and Thure Lindhardt are nominated in the best actor category.

Shocking doesn't begin to cover it, more like down right criminal negligence, methinks ...
Just hope whoever decides who wins Best Actor, sees the light & actually votes for the best one, i.e. Mads. He's probably the finest foreign actor of his generation & definately deserves more recognition. I firmly believe we don't get to see enough of his work in the UK & it seriously bugs me. _________________ I will choose my own fate !

Not sure if anyone else has seen March's issue of Empire magazine, but I was stunned that it actually has an article on page 25, about the uber-talented Mr Mikkelsen & "Flame and Citron". And, there's even a shot of the man himself !
It claims, & I | Quote: |
If you only see one Dutch resistance thriller this year, see Flame And Citron, the European answer to Valkyrie or Defiance, in which Mads Mikkelsen takes on the Nazis, finally making a spectacular last stand against a cadre of fascists. |
Considering how poor the coverage has been in British movie mags over the years, about anything Mads has been doing, I was glad I was sitting down when I came across this - most probably would have collapsed in shock otherwise !
If anyone here's interested, according to the article, & I hope to God this is correct, "Flame And Citron" will be released in the UK - at long blooming last, if you ask me - on March 6. _________________ I will choose my own fate !

New role for Mads:
The Clash of the Titans remake has snagged another recent Bond veteran, following word Quantum of Solace co-star Gemma Arterton had joined the cast earlier this week, we now learn Casino Royale baddie Mads Mikkelsen has also joined the cast along with Alexa Davalos whom some may remember as Kyra from The Chronicles of Riddick.
Sam Worthington is toplining the Greek-god epic for director Louis Letterier (The Incredible Hulk) which follows Perseus and his quest to battle both Medusa and the Kraken monster in order to save the Princess Andromeda. Matt Manfredi and Phil Hay wrote the script.
Mikkelsen is playing Draco, a skilled fighter and leader of the Praetorian Guard that accompanies Perseus. Davalos is Andromeda, the captured princess, and Arterton is Io, who is instrumental in bringing the winged horse Pegasus to Perseus and Arterton was quoted saying Io and Perseus “fall in love” in the film.
Warner Bros. has already set a March 26, 2010 release date

Mads is playing "one eye" in Valhalla Rising, out 19th march (in the uk anyway.
Set in the viking era, One Eyein Mads's own words is a warrior "I slice open stomachs, bite out throats and get up to lots of grusesome nastiness".
He also seems to spend quite a lot of time with his shirt off which is always a good thing
Here's the trailer:

Mads was just Knighted recently so now he is Sir Mads Mikkelsen, how awesome is that. I'm so happy for him, and now he is going to be in the new Three Musketeers. _________________
